Sabartes Avec Deux Femmes

Jaume Sabartes was a Spanish poet and sculpture from Barcelona; his influence and importance in Piocasso's life has resonated throughout the decades after both artists' deaths.

Sabartes and Picasso befriended each other in 1900 as they were both patrons of Le Quatre Gats, a Parisian Cabaret. Their friendship went on to endure over half a century, in 1935 Sabartes was appointed Picasso's private secretary and until his death in 1968 he was the foremost Biographer on Picasso and his works. During his time as Picasso's private secretary Sabartes arranged Picasso's Shows and Exhibitions, wrote correspondence on the artists behalf and assisted the artist with numerous other confidential and personal matters.

Following Sabartes' death in 1968, Picasso donated 900 works in Sabartes' name to the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.

The importance and impact of Sabartes on Picasso's life and artwork goes beyond that of a masterful secretary, Sabartes inspired Picasso on many occasions including the creation of this dramatic and exquisite suite "Sabartes Avec Deux Femmes".
